We are very lucky to have such a well renowned coach as Allan Poynton here at BLAC as our hurdles coach. Allan has helped to deliver some marvellous improvements with our athletes over the years and commences his coaching weekly from 6.00pm till 7.00pm on Thursday nights.

Below is a note from Allan personally. We’d encourage you to come along – its still free for our BLAC athletes.

My name is Allan Poynton, and I have been coaching (mainly hurdles) at Brighton since ’95 and with the Victorian Junior Development Squad for quite a number of years as well. I have a Level 3 Advanced Event Group Coach qualification and coach at all levels from beginner to National.

While the coaches try to help the children develop their skills during weekly competition it is not the ideal time, especially for events such as hurdles, as learning is not their focus for the day. It is usually best if the coaching is done in a separate session. It is also noticeable the difference coaching has towards a child’s approach to the sport, the gratification they get out of achieving personal best results and the camaraderie they get out of developing with others of similar abilities.

I hold a group session on Thursday nights at Dendy Park at 6pm to which all are welcome, including children from other Centres. I work with children of all abilities and the only criteria is that they want to improve. I also run more individual sessions by arrangement.

Please arrive just before 6pm on a Thursday or contact me on 0439 659 367 or aj.poynton@gmail.com to discuss your requirements.
